PICTO au Rmn-Grand Palais

Post Image

Sergio Trapani takes us on a captivating journey into his world with the collection of lamps titled « Picto Voto, » meticulously crafted in his Neapolitan workshop. This collection draws inspiration from the iconic religious craftsmanship deeply ingrained in Neapolitan culture, renowned for its widespread use of silver. The Latin expression « ex voto, » literally translated as « in fulfillment of a vow, » encompasses a wide array of gifts offered in exchange for received blessings or the fulfillment of promises, regardless of the final outcome of the request.

In this unique series, Sergio Trapani delves into the concept of miracles through a resolutely contemporary iconic representation. His meticulous choice of materials, such as brass, along with the use of a special paint derived from the volcanic stone of Mount Vesuvius, combined with an ancient embossing technique, endows his creations with an exemplary singularity. The subtle interplay of light and shadow creates an impact that is both mystical and minimalist, revealing the distinctiveness of each work.

This exceptional collection was initially curated and exhibited in Paris, with the support of Neotu, before gaining acclaim through the presentation by Frédéric de Luca of « En attendant les Barbares. » Subsequently, it was honored with a place at the RMN (Réunion des Musées Nationaux) meeting at the prestigious Louvre Grand Palais in Paris. There, it captivated art enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike, garnering admiration for Sergio Trapani’s remarkable talent and creativity, while offering a captivating immersion into Neapolitan cultural heritage.
